HGTV Design Star: One Client, Four Apartments

The Mission: In teams of two, the contestants will design an apartment for the same young married couple with the hopes that the couple will choose their design.

The Teams: By Random Choice
Brooks and Tiffany- Interesting, they seem like they're totally different
Anne and Jeribai- I could see some tension, Anne is a control freak
Tylor and Cris- They worked together last week and don't really like each other
Abby and Boris- These two worked together too, not sure about the duo

NEW TWIST: TWO WILL GO HOME!!!

Interview Clients- Best Questions
Anne and Jeribai:  If you had to choose between clean lines or shabby sheik?

Brooks and Tiffany: What is entertaining like for you guys?
Clients reaction was hilarious, she called them ADD, which they were.

Tylor and Cris: Do you like to watch TV in your living room?  HAHAHA

Abby and Boris: Just the interaction was great, Boris was hilarious in this episode.

First Glance at apartments
Anne and Jeribai: Their interactions seem to be creative and insightful.  They seem to be on the same page.

Brooks and Tiffany: These two seem like they're a better team than first imagined.

Abby and Boris: Boris wants to use faux molding, just stop painting near the ceiling to look like crown molding, which Abby is not thrilled about.  Sounds like a terrible idea.

Tylor and Cris:  Tylor takes over and wants a green that she isn't thrilled about.  She is thinking about herself and what she would want.  Tylor said it's not about her, but I'm thinking she needs to follow her heart.

Furniture Shopping
B&T: They are looking at some vintage chairs and a lounger.

C&T: They found a tray and a rug for the family room.

B&A: Abby finds a bookshelf that she likes, Boris likes it too.  Boris, "I'm not feeling horny." Blam!

A&J: A barbed wire art piece, Jeribai thinks it is abrasive, so Anne will take credit for it.

Design
B & T: They laid out this cool design for the wall using painters tape.  It has inspired me to try this out in our babies room whenever I get to start painting.  Thanks Brooks and Tiffany!  True Design Star potential!

J& A: Jeribai wants to create a stripe on one side of the apartment, two create a two-toned effect.  Anne doesn't want Jeribai to do it himself because it'll take too much time.

C&T: They have their green walls, over the entire apartment, really boring.  Cris is not pleased.

Most teams have a focus wall with a bold color, which Cris and Tylor did not.

David Bromstad
The winning room will be featured in HGTV magazine.  They're looking for things that are easy for the viewer to do on their own.  The camera challenge needs to be something a renter could do that is easy to do and easy to correct upon moving out.

Camera Challenges
All of the camera challenges left something to be desired.  None of them had any mind blowing ideas or clear demonstrations on what to do.  Bromstad had Abby in tears, but in a good way.  He was playing psychologist and Abby is feeling a lot of anxiety.  She seems a little unstable, but aren't great artists like that?  Cris had a good energy, but she didn't show anything.  Tylor, "the expert", was awful. This guy is so overrated, by his own doing.  I think Anne is a natural at this camera challenge thing, but she used a focal wall as her challenge which even I know about.  Brooks had more energy this time, but almost too much, at a maniacal level.  That is Brooks though.  The winner in my opinion:  Brooks, just because he had a more original idea even if it wasn't perfect.

Final Day
B & A:  They're going to do a whole wall of drapery, and I think their selections look pretty cool.  They didn't measure the room right, they had 114 inches but the total wall was 145 inches.  How does that happen?  They jimmy rig it, and get the drapery up, I think it looks good.  It would of looked awesome as a complete product.

A&J: Anne is shopping, Jeribai is painting his stripes.  It's taking longer than he expected, but Anne warned him.  Furniture isn't there yet, which upsets Anne.  She would not be fun to work with, so anal.  They load in the furniture when Anne gets there, Anne is going to put the room together while Jeribai creates a guitar art piece.  Jeribais' guitar is a wood piece that is pretty cool for how long it took him to make.  Anne has lost her drapes again!  So, empty window, yikes!

B&T: Brooks is putting all the furniture in place, Tiffany is happy about this.  Brooks lets Tiffany know she needs to nail the feminine essence.

T&C: Cris is creating an art piece, that Tylor hates.  He talks so much shit, but then says "love it" to her face.  I HATE people like that, just be honest.  That is why Tylor has no chance to win this this thing.  To Cris' credit, she lets Tylor know if she doesn't like something.
The Painting No One Loved

Panel Review
Abby and Boris: I personally think this looks kind of cluttered.  It looks comfortable.  The judges love the bookshelf and they realized it's a dummy curtain.  Boris' faux molding is called out, and it looks like crap.

Jeribai and Anne:  This is a beautiful room.  I love the contrast on the walls and the clean feel.  The judges love the stripes. The missing curtains have kind of hurt them I'm afraid.  They kind of like the barbed wire piece.

Cris and Tylor:  This is really plain and the color is gross, especially when it's the entire apartment.  The furniture is nice though.  They don't like the painting or the color of the walls.

Tiffany and Brooks: This is cluttered, but they've put a lot of seating so the renters could entertain many people.  They like the wall art, but hate the cluttered dinner table.

Review with Contestants
Brooks and Tiffany get a lot of compliments.

Tylor and Cris get criticized hard on their camera challenge.  I don't think this was fair, nobody stood out on their camera challenges and everyone should of been criticized.  Genevieve was harsh with Cris.  I thought Cris' made me want to make my own painting.  Why would you encourage someone to try to create their own art piece?  If it sucks, don't put it up, but it could be a nice addition to a home.  Tylor doesn't want to take full credit for the color, but the judges know what was up.

Anne was praised for the accessories and the barbed wire art.  Jeribai was praised for the guitar and for the wall stripes, which were the "best stripes" ever seen on HGTV Design Star.    I concur, beautiful stripes.

Abby and Boris are criticized for their camera challenges too.  They don't say who won the camera challenge, which is a red flag.  Like I said, criticize everyone!  They called Boris creepy, haha which is true.  He is a creep.  Boris takes credit for the library, but Abby definitely pointed out the bookshelf.  They bicker over it, and then Boris says they both found it. Complete BS!  Doesn't Boris know the judges and everyone else, can watch the tape?  He's an idiot, he won't last too long.

Elimination
The judges say that the people eliminated do not need to be from the same team.  They hate on Boris and Tylor.  Cris is getting hit hard for not stepping up and giving her voice.  My opinion, Boris and Tylor should go home.

Brooks and Tiffany are the winners!  The renters loved the room.  Anne and Jeribai are also safe.  I don't think any thing is wrong with this.  Both rooms were awesome.
The Winners!

Tylor and Cris are eliminated.  I think it's BS, Boris was definitely worse than Cris, but I don't think they wanted to eliminate two of the same gender.  Boris did some shady stuff and his faux molding was hated on!  I think Boris is just waiting to be eliminated.

* Winners ^ Losers

I have loved rooting for Cris, but I just think she needs more time to develop as a designer. I've never been a fan of Tylor, he is cocky and boring.  Boris is on the hot seat, he showed a little more creativity this week, but I think he'll be the next to go.  I think overall, the decisions made were the right choice.
