HGTV Design Star: School Bus Makeovers

There are only four designers remaining: Anne, Brooks, Jeribai, and Tiffany.  The contestants are waiting in the room after last week's decision when David Bromstad reveals their camera challenge:  The four of them will represent HGTV on "The Talk" performing a segment with a couple of hosts teaching the hosts and viewers an unconventional design tip.
Final Four

The next day the contestants discover that they will design a stripped down school bus of their own, in any way that they'd like.  Jeribai " why are we running?" as the contestants run to their school buses.  They need to create something unconventional, inspiring, and they shouldn't play it safe.  The most unconvential space that Tiffany has ever done is a store window.

Tiffany wants to have a Mad Hatter tea party from Alice in Wonderland.  She's going to make the space emerald green.

Anne used to design luxury motor coaches, so she feels like she's got this.  She is going to create a living space and a bedroom space.

Brooks is excited to not hold back.  He's talking about a space ship, a lounge, Brooks' brain.

Jeribai wants to create a boxer's lounge, with a training area in the back and a resting area in the front.  They take off the wheel wells, which makes it more spacious.

Tiffany leaves to find furniture for the dining room.  She finds a hodgepodge of chairs which you can tell that her idea is starting to come to fruition.

Jeribai went to Lumber Liquadtors for a bamboo floor so the bus feels taller and wider.

Anne is looking for furniture but spent the whole day looking but couldnt' find anything.  It was a huge time waster.

Tiffany's carpenter is frustrated because his paint sprayer wasn't working so he had to hand paint the bus.

Day 2
Camera Challenges: The Talk
Tiffany was lovable showing how to take a vintage frame and turn it into a whiteboard.  The tip was fun and she was able to show everyone how to create it.  It was better than previous camera challenges.

Jeribai completely rocks his camera challenge.  He is playful with the hosts, his tip (adding a chopping block onto a dress of drawers) was different but useful.  He also included a chalk board on the back of the dresser so kids could be occupied while mama is cooking.  Jeribai did a 180 on this camera challenge and won me over.  "People were ready to throw their panties" said Tiffany.

Anne shows the hosts how to make a pet bed by flipping a side table over and putting in a pillow.  It was usable, but kind of boring.  The judges mention later how her shoulders were hunched over which I didn't realize until the second time.

Brooks, oh Brooks.  His curiosoties.  He said curiosity over and over and over.  The hosts and viewers look confused.  He turned a vintage suitcase into a medicine cabinet.  If you don't know Brooks, you're probably confused.  You can tell, especially from Jeribai, that people love Brooks when they get to know him.  He just needs to have his chance!

Tiffany returns and her whole bus is emerald green.  I think it looks ugly and I'm not sure what she is going to do with it.  She wants to have drips of blood on playing cards.

Jeribai's space is starting to come together, with the flooring put in.

Anne tells her carpenter, "remember we're a team so we need to go, go go and we want to win!" Her carpenter replies, "OK" with a "no shit" look.

Jeribai goes shopping for boxing supplies.

Brooks wants to have 3-D egg shell at the back of the bus, so it looks like the end of a blimp.  The carpenter looks confused, but she's going to give it a try.

Day 3
David Bromstad has arrived in his Volvo play special music.

He visits Anne first, she is explaining how she wants to create her space.  He tells her that she did play it safe but has to turn it up a notch.

Brooks shows the egg show nose cone.  He explains how it is a lounge, but Bromstad says to make it sure it's completely finished off.

Jeribai explains his bus and how he wants to make drapes.  Bromstad explains that the drapes need to be perfect but Jeribai says he needs a divider.

Bromstad "holy turquoise" arriving on Tiffany's bus.  She explains how it's going to be dark and death.  Bromstad says it should be dark and pretty, and it should be Tiffany.  Tiffany changes her tune and wants to make it soft and pretty.

One Kings Lane pop up boutique, which everyone grabs a bunch of crap.

Anne is putting up her wallpaper and then shops for furniture.

Tiffany goes and buys some plants to make the space prettier.  She grabs some trees and flowers.

Brooks "floats" a chair in the zepplin egg.

Jeribai starts to install the drapery rod but it ends up being short by 10 inches on both sides.  He doesn't have time to get a different rod.  He creates the drapes despite the shortcomings.

Anne is needing to make her finishing touches wiht limited time.

Tiffany is trying to make drapery behind the trees but she doesn't know how to sew, so she skips it.

Brooks is styling with futuristic types of furniture with little types of curosities.

30 Minutes Remaining
Anne is freaking out and doesn't iron her sheets.  It's messy looking.  Anne has an incomplete room.  One of her few downfalls is her time management is pretty awful.

The Panel Review
Jeribai- First looks, wow.  Comfortable, functional.  They said it's fun, comfortable, but point out the curtains and accessories.

Anne- She gets a wow as well.  They think it's gorgeous.  They say she always designs for herself but it's redundant.  Very bland and no room in between the seating.

Brooks- They love the egg shaped with the reflection off the copper chair.  The accessories are pointed out for not making sense.

Tiffany- The judges seem to love Tiffany's which looks like the tea party from Alice in Wonderland.  They're surprised because this is so different from Tiffany.  The back of the bus is an "unfinished thought."

Meeting with Judges
Jeribai won the camera challenge.  Tiffany won the school bus challenge.  It came down between Brooks and Anne.

Brooks' camera challenge hasn't killed him yet, but it may come down to that in the end.  Anne struggled on the camera challenge and the school bus challenge.  I didn't know which way they'd go, but Anne is sent home.  I'm a little surprised because Anne seems like a HGTV host, but at the same time, they have a lot of shows that have Anne's as a host.

The finale is next week, with all 3 going for the win.  I think Jeribai is in the lead with the other two needing to step up.  Tiffany needs to get more exciting again while Brooks needs to nail his camera challenge.
Bye Anne!

I saw a re-tweet from Anne from a follower who said Brooks is unique but she'd never watch his show.  I totally disagree, I want something different to watch.  I can watch Anne everyday on HGTV, we need more uniqueness.  I think it will bring in more male viewers as well.
